The Marcel at Gramercy is a luxury hotel situated near the Gramercy Park Hotel, but not to be confused with it. The Marcel reopened in early 2008 following an extensive transformation. This 135-room hotel is decorated in a modern, chic style that offers luxury in the form of Frette linens and highly designed rooms, along with a slew of amenities.

The perfect location in historic Gramercy Park, The Marcel offers easy access to public transportation and major airports. Within arm’s reach are the hip neighborhoods of the East Village and Lower East Side, Madison and Fifth Avenue shopping, Baruch College, the Empire State and Flatiron buildings. Union Square. Midtown, Soho, Greenwich Village and Chelsea areas are just a short walk away.

Location
The Marcel is located just above Gramercy Park on 24th Street. While the hotel doesn’t get to take advantage of the incredible luxury of being located right on Gramercy Park itself (which can be entered only by those who possess the covetable key), the 24th Street location isn’t too shabby. The hotel is within walking distance of a variety of neighborhoods, including transportation hub Union Square. Walk just a few blocks south and you’ll find yourself at the park, walk a few blocks west and you’ll find yourself at a different park, that of Madison Square, home of Danny Meyer’s famous Shake Shack (word to the wise: waiting in line for Shake Shack on a  nice day takes commitment; be prepared to wait). Gramercy is a quiet, residential neighborhood that is chock full of shops, restaurants and bars – so if you want to stay “close to home” you won’t lack for anywhere to wine or dine. That being said, the hotel’s location is also great in terms of public transportation – it’s right by the 6 train, which goes up and down the East Side of Manhattan – so getting around to visit the tourist attractions you’re dying to see is a cinch.

Gramercy Park Hotel is an Ian Schrager masterpiece – a luxury boutique hotel with a haute bohemian sentiment. Located right on Gramercy Park, the elusive green space which allows entry only by key, the hotel reinvents bohemian for the 21st century, with an original combination of styles, with great pieces of furniture and artwork and the extraordinary use of color.

It is still the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City, but honored and renewed in a glorious transformation. The lobby and public space of the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City are a vivid and operatic feast of visual tension and art—an enlivening mélange of the “new” High Bohemia. Epic canvases dance around the highly textured rooms of rough plaster, Moroccan tiles, hand-woven rugs, and reclaimed lumber. Lush velvet, hand-carved lumber – attention to detail is an understatement.

The bold, individualistic spirit of the public spaces at the Gramercy Park Hotel is carried on into the 185 guest rooms and luxury suites here in Manhattan. Imported hand tufted rugs with deep rose velvet drapery on custom bronze rods create a beautiful palette with the mahogany window enclosures and wooden blinds. Curated photographs and unique pieces of furniture inspired by a myriad of cultures and styles are juxtaposed with original creations by Julian Schnabel and Maarten Baas can be found throughout the rooms and the entirety of the hotel. The hotel also boasts an incredible penthouse, which features all of the above interior details with a full living room, dining area and separate bedroom.

The Gramercy Park Hotel isn’t only well known for its regal rooms, but also its bar and restaurant. Maialino is a new Roman-style trattoria from award winning Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group. It serves lovingly prepared Roman-style cooking from Executive Chef Nick Anderer and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Rose Bar and Jade Bar are two of the most original and exciting public spaces in New York City. The Rose Bar, which is often frequented by the glitterati and literati of New York, is popular with celebrities, who can be found imbibing the bar’s signature cocktails and popping outside for smokes. The entrance to the Gramercy Park Hotel is located on Lexington Avenue between 21st and 22nd Streets. As mentioned, it borders the famous Gramercy Park, an island of serenity in the concrete jungle.
