Royalton – Midtown Hotels

In 2007,  Royalton proudly re-opened its doors onto midtown Manhattan, re-thought, re-imagined, but still an icon. Morgans commissioned Roman and Williams, the New York design firm, to re-create Royalton’s legendary lobby as a crossroads for international travelers and the New York elite. The design – simultaneously sophisticated and complex – juxtaposes an icy cast-glass vestibule and brutalist steel and brass furnishings with soft suede upholstery, thick leather walls and hide-covered chairs to create a dark, sexy and luxurious space. Design and architectural details include a mammoth floor-to-ceiling hand forged cast–bronze fireplace, a twenty-foot screen that was once part of the façade of a building in France and hand-upholstered leather walls done in a pattern reminiscent of African tribal art.

There’s also one loft in the hotel, where Philippe Starck’s boldness inspired minimalist designer Charlotte Macaux to transform this stunning suite with charm and imagination. A glittering bathroom with circular tub is the perfect place to rejuvenate the body and soul with sumptuous MALIN+GOETZ products. Fine Egyptian cotton linens, an exquisitely comfortable bed and a working fireplace invite relaxation. Enjoy the bright lights of Manhattan and the subtle nuances of this room, your private refuge amongst the bustle of the city. The hotel also offers an alcove suite and three penthouse units. Royalton’s New York City Penthouses offer three bold and distinctly different design statements, yet each is a spacious and elegantly appointed incarnation of the chic Manhattan pied-a-terre. They feature plush built-in window banquettes and luxurious slate and mirrored tile bathrooms. Sumptuous round soaking tubs and working fireplaces with custom slate mantels reward moments indoors, while lavish terraces with stunning views of midtown Manhattan inspire a step outside.

Forty Four, headlined by a world-class group of bartenders known as “The Cocktail Collective,” features a new food menu that is ingredient-focused and celebrates the longstanding, hotel lobby ritual of accompanying a cocktail or two with a spontaneous meal.

Location
Royalton is located in the heart of Midtown on 44th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Just a few blocks above former fashion mecca Bryant Park, one of the city’s chicest green spaces, Royalton offers the perfect balance of luxury and convenience. Subways abound in the neighborhood, which is just east of the hustle and bustle of Times Square. However, the bright lights of the big city are a bit dimmer over here, so you’ll be able to sleep at night. Walk almost anywhere – whether you’re headed to shop on Fifth Avenue, which is dotted with expensive boutiques such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and more; or whether you want to take a horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park. Should you choose to head downtown, a quick subway ride will place you wherever you’d like to go.
New York City isn’t one place, it’s a hundred different places, all jostling for your attention. From the uptown Glitz of the Upper West Side to the downtown bohemian chic of the West Village, from Chinatown to Little Italy, from Murray Hill to Midtown, you are presented with entirely different sights, sounds and even smells in each neighborhood. As if this weren’t enough, interesting new areas keep on springing up with their trendy acronyms. The latest is DUMBO (we kid you not – it stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass!). Make a vague plan of what you want to see, but beware – the fizzing energy of Manhattan is bewitching, and it could carry you completely off course. Never mind – adventures are always guaranteed in this amazing international metropolis. Just make sure you see the best sights, like the Empire State with its amazing views, and leave plenty of time for the fabulous shopping!
